Wedding Shoes

Just like every bride wishes her wedding day to perfect, she spends a considerable time in looking for the perfect attire; and this includes her wedding dress and wedding shoes. No longer is the wedding dress the central focus and wedding shoes the traditional satin pumps of yesteryear; nowadays, the shoes have become as fashionable as the dress, and matching the right shoe with the right dress a priority.

History of Wedding Shoes

While Cinderella, the fairytale bride, married her prince charming in delicate glass slippers, it was Queen Victoria in 1840 who married in a white dress and white shoes, who has been the real life inspiration for millions of brides till date. Before then, the color blue was the norm when it came to bridal ensembles.  Princess Diana wore ivory silk flat shoes encrusted with pearls for her wedding.

While flat satin pumps have been the most common wedding shoes till one can look back in history, the wedding shoe trend has evolved immensely over decades. From high heels, low heels , pumps to even flip flops- the modern day bride makes a fashion statement with her wedding shoes.

While there is no limitation to what one can wear and cannot wear when it comes to wedding shoes, there are some common pointers to be considered when it comes to choosing wedding shoes:

Comfort

A wedding is as much tiring as much it is fun. With having to walk down the aisle, attend to guests at reception, pose for numerous photographs, cut cake, and dance, your feet might be calling for help by the end of the day. When picking your wedding shoe, 'comfort' is the word to keep in mind. Look for shoes that feel comforting and will allow you to be on your feet for hours and hours without affecting the smile on your face!

Heel Height

- the length of the wedding dress depends on the height of heels of your shoe. Ensure your dress is fitted to take care of this beforehand to avoid last minute changes in hemming.

Shoe Fabric

satin and silk are two most common fabrics used for wedding shoes. They make for an elegant footwear and are quite comfortable too. However, if the wedding dress is non-traditional, there is no rule that says the shoe needs to be traditional.

Shopping Tip

it is best advised to go shoe shopping towards the end of the day when feet are generally swollen  and tired. This would give a good estimate of which shoe would be most comfortable in such a situation, one that would be on the wedding day.

Embellishments

if your wedding dress and shoe both are embellished and have lot of detailing, matching the embellishments of both to make it look coordinated is a great idea. Generally, dresses with pearls go well with beaded shoes and sequined dresses work well with crystals on shoes.

Thus, beautiful shoes for a beautiful bride is sure to make for a beautiful wedding. Go ahead, make a style statement on the most special day of your life!
