Wedding Tiaras
A wedding dress accessory that lends elegance to the attire and can make any bride feel like a princess is the wedding tiara. Commonly used in the past years as a beautiful replacement to the traditional veil, tiaras add a fairytale-like charm to the bride's look.
History of Wedding Tiaras
Tiaras have been around for millenia. Egyptian mummies have been found to wear them, as have the Greeks and the Romans. The association of tiaras with wedding ceremonies came to be much later; it was in the early 19th century in the British Isles that the tradition of wearing wedding tiaras began, which is so popular now.
The tradition of wedding tiaras was immensely popular during the Victorian era, and once the Russians took up the custom, the tiaras transformed into extravagant head pieces. Somewhere in the twentieth century, the custom of wearing tiaras died down for a while, only to make a strong comeback in this century. The elegance and look of royalty which tiaras impart to the wedding ensemble is making brides opt for these accessories for their special day.
Wedding Tiaras and Themed Weddings
Tiaras find a special place in some wedding themes like Irish, Gothic, Celtic, Medieval and Galway. In fact, it were the Irish who used tiaras in their first communion services long before the trend of wedding tiaras caught up with the British royalty. Also, while the tiaras worn by Royal British brides are more extravagant and studded with diamonds and other embellishments, the tiaras worm by brides of Gothic, Celtic and Irish cultures are simpler and earthy in design.
Nowadays, there is less stress on customs and more on the style statement. Tiaras are worn by modern-day brides as a personal choice in order to bring a fairytale-like effect to her ensemble.
Choosing a Wedding Tiara
Tiaras of various styles are available and when choosing one, the bride needs to take care of two main factors that will affect the bride's overall look:
- Hairstyle- The type of tiara you buy will depend on the hairstyle you will have on the wedding day. Thus, along with your wedding gown, also finalize your hairdo for that day. It is not a bad idea to go shopping for the tiara with your hair in that style. If you plan to wear your hair up, you can opt for a taller tiara that will make it a central focus on your head. For hair let down, a shorter tiara will work well.
- Gown- Matching your tiara with the embellishments on your gown will help achieve a blended look. Also, it is a good idea to match the tiara style with the cut of your gown. A v-shaped gown is enhanced with a tiara with a peak.
Go ahead and get yourself one; the tiara would be a perfect royal accessory on your wedding day.
