Bridal Gowns - Preserve the memory
The bridal gown is that special attire before buying which a woman goes through countless choices and ends up spending a fortune to make her wedding that much memorable. But more often than not, once the ceremony is over, this special gown is left uncared for and forgotten in the myriad of marital adjustments as the newly-weds embark on their journey of a lifetime of togetherness. Like the wedding photo and the wedding video, the wedding gown ought to be treasured, either by preserving it or using it elsewhere for some other greater cause.
The bride with a traditional bent of mind is more likely to opt for the preservation of her bridal dress by shipping it to a wedding dress preservation company which will free it from spots and stains, iron the gown and wrap it in acid-free tissues. This will prevent the gown from turning yellow or getting permanently wrinkled.
For the more broad-minded and less conservative, an innovative option is to revamp the gown either into another bridal attire for a close relative or friend or use the bridal fabric for other designs. The gown can even be metamorphosed into a baby bedding for the couple’s children in the future or made into a christening dress.
For the brides with a big heart a perfect option would be to actually donate their wedding gown which are thereafter repaired, restored and even sold to collect money for organizing events to help cancer patients. The I Do Foundation for instance takes the proceeds from the sale of wedding dresses donated to them to encourage charity during weddings. The Glass Slipper Project accepts bridesmaids gowns which is part of their program to distribute formal dresses to students unable to buy prom gowns.
Arguments in favour of the resale of once worn bridal gowns are:
- Once worn bridal gowns are an economical option for the brides who cannot afford to buy an expensive bridal dress and yet want to look like a princess on that day.
- A bride may also be glad to part with her wedding attire to make more room in her closet for new clothes.
- She may cherish memories of her wedding dress but may be prepared to sell it once the ceremony is done with for a price although it is less than the fortune she spent on it.
- The bridal gown is practically speaking good as new after the wedding and after a routine dry-clean is fit for resale.
Thus, it is indeed possible to be able to wear a designer dress at half the price if one browses the options of purchasing once worn bridal gowns.
